Overview

Context

The Beckn(Yatri) App creates an open network for transportation services, creating seamless communication, discovery, and transaction between consumers and transportation providers. This transforms how people move around in cities by leveraging the power of open networks and digital transportation platforms.

Beckn(Yatri) App is part of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC*), a non-profit organisation set up by the State Government, Nandan Nilekani, the chairman of Infosys(US$19 billion) and Vineet, CEO of Juspay($460 million) to democratise digital commerce.

The app, Yatri, rolled out in two cities in 2021 and 2022, with an explosive surge and a total of 1.5 million users embracing its innovative approach to urban mobility for riders and drivers.

*ONDC promotes innovation and competition in the market and reduces the dominance of a few prominent players by establishing an open platform for buying and selling services, where consumers can discover and compare products from multiple sellers and providers.

My Role

→ Lead Product Designer, from ideation to Dev Handoff.
→ Lead the onboarding, search and navigation experience for riders.
→ Focused on driver pick-up and drop-off experience.

Problem & Background

Today's urban riders are burdened with travel decision-making. They must deal with separate access, bookings, and payments from various transportation providers when identifying the best way to reach their destination.

Painkiller and Objective:
→ Convenient method for riders to plan and reach their destination.
→ Empower Rider to select the best journey from various options.
→ Empathise and help drivers earn a fair amount for their services.

Result

People wrestle between time, comfort and price.

Finding tailored, cost-effective journeys from Point A to Point C saves time and effort. Whether users are seasoned riders or new to the city, this helps them discover journeys that match their interests trust this new application to make every trip enjoyable and stress-free.

Concise and ease of use

Riders discover various journeys they could take in greater detail to help them book the most satisfactory available journey and mode of transportation through their choice of available service providers.

Empowering drivers to earn their fair share

Private providers like Uber driver ride cancellations are at skyrocketing rates, so this app intends to offer customers reasonable prices. Unlike private providers, the app connects customers directly with drivers with no middlemen costs.

Designing for suitable environments

There are big visual and interaction usability differences between the customer side of the app and the drivers. Customer-end apps are predominantly used in a comfortable environment. Meanwhile, the driver's app is used at a distance, shaking, and noisy environment. These considerations helped to design a usable product for drivers who are tech-illiterate.
